About the Organization
Opened in 2019, the non-profit Rondo Center of Diverse Expressions (RCODE) has administrative and operational responsibility for the Rondo Commemorative Plaza (RCP), the nation’s first public memorial to Black neighborhoods destroyed by interstate highways. RCODE’s fundamental aim is to rekindle the spirit of the Rondo neighborhood. Rondo was the vibrant heart of the Twin Cities' African American community during much of the twentieth century until it was split in half during the construction of Interstate-94.
RCODE hosts collaborative, public events at the plaza and in the center. Events include an annual Juneteenth ceremony, “Jazz at the Plaza” with JazzAccess, and a movement series for adults 55+ with TU Dance. Ongoing projects include the Rondo Research Collection, Engraved Brick program, and Rondo Center Community Gardens. For more information, visit our website: www.rcodemn.org.
